It's my understanding that the housing market problems stem from adjustable rate mortgages and loans with interest only features for a certain period of time where the balloon payments or the principle/interest payment is now required. My suggestion would be to put a freeze on the interest rate and or the monthly payment to a prior period, such as two years ago. This, I believe would stop the foreclosers because people would be back where they were before the housing crisis started. It would minimize the losses in the financial world, allow people to readjust to the current financial position and would stabilize home prices for those of us who have properly planned their finances. This freeze on mortgage payments would be for a period of say 5 years.
